What is a synergy essential oils blend?
It is the “working together” of two or more essential oils that gives a better result than the total of their individual effects. When blended together, completely new compounds are formed. The chemical constituents in a single oil can have an enhancing effect on the other oils in the blend.
All of our synergy blends are created or overseen by Robert Tisserand. Robert is a world-renowned expert in the essential oil industry and consultant to Plant Therapy. When formulating synergies we cover as many areas as possible. Plant Therapy Essential Oils Review
Plant Therapy essential oils have become very popular over the past few years. Many essential oil users have been looking for alternatives to popular MLM brands and many have turned to Plant Therapy.
I’ve been using Plant Therapy essential oils for quite a while now and I thought it was about time I did a Plant Therapy essential oils review.
But before I get started with this Plant Therapy essential oils review I wanted to talk a little bit about choosing an essential oil brand.

When I first started using essential oils I truly believed expensive MLM brands were superior to other essential oil companies but eventually (thank goodness) realized that just wasn’t true.
With that being said, not all essential oil companies are created equal and there are in fact some terrible brands out there. So it is very important to do your research before buying essential oils.

I actually wrote a blog post all about how to choose an essential oil brand. In that post I outline seven very important things to look for when choosing an essential oil company. You can check them out below.

- The company uses proper extraction methods
- The oils are completely unadulterated
- The company provides GC/MS testing reports
- The company bottles and labels their oils properly
- The companies essential oils are fairly priced
So in this Plant Therapy essential oils review, we are going to see if Plant Therapy essential oils meet all the criteria above. But before we do I would like to share a little bit about the history of the company.
Plant Therapy Review
Plant Therapy was founded in 2011 by Chris Jones. Jones wanted to provide high-quality, affordable, essential oils.
In 2013 Robert Tisserand, a world-renowned aromatherapist and essential oil educator, joined the company as their quality and safety expert.
They have since developed a kid-safe line of essential oils (more about that below). They have also hired many other aromatherapists.
They have grown tremendously as a company over the years and have become one of the most popular and trusted essential oil brands.
Plant Therapy believes strongly in giving back and has created Planting Kindness, a philanthropy program committed to making the world a better place.
Although Robert Tisserand no longer works with the company, the processes and protocols he established are still used by the company today.
Okay, now onto the oils.
Where Do Plant Therapy Essential Oils Come From?
Plant Therapy sources its essential oils from all over the world. Each farmer and supplier is carefully vetted to ensure the highest quality.
They typically test 3-5 samples from different suppliers for every essential oil that they purchase. Even when they re-purchase from the same supplier, they still test the new batch of oil.
Plants are sourced from their indigenous locations whenever possible. The country of origin is printed on each bottle label.
Are Plant Therapy Essential Oils From Organic Or Wild-Crafted Plants?
Many Plant Therapy essential oils are organic. The oils that are organic are clearly labeled as such.
Plant Therapy states that many of their other oils are organic as well. They just aren’t “certified” organic because many of the farmers cannot afford to certify their organically grown plants.
I couldn’t find any info in regards to whether or not some of their oils come from wildcrafted plants.

What Extraction Method Does Plant Therapy Use?
The extraction method is very important. The extraction method can either preserve or destroy the plant’s molecular structure.
Most Plant Therapy essential oils are extracted using steam distillation. Steam distillation is the most common method of extracting essential oils.
Their citrus oils are extracted using cold-pressed extraction.
Are Plant Therapy Essential Oils Pure?
Plant Therapy states that all of their essential oils are 100% pure and contain no additives or fillers.
Does Plant Therapy Provide GC/MS Testing Reports?
According to Plant Therapy each batch of every oil goes through multiple rounds of third party GC/MS testing and a full panel of the chemical constituents is available on each product page.
They also evaluate each oil’s color, consistency, and general appearance to ensure the most accurate information possible.
This is an area that Plant Therapy does exceptionally well in.
Does Plant Therapy Use Proper Bottling & Labeling Techniques?
They use dark, amber, glass bottles which prevents the oil from being exposed to ultraviolet radiation.
Their labels include the Latin botanical name of the oil, safety information as well as the country of origin.
Are Plant Therapy Essential Oils Priced Fairly?
Plant Therapy sells oils at extremely affordable prices. For example, a 30ml bottle of lavender costs around $15.95. While a bottle half the size from Young Living costs around $31.00!!!!
A 30ml bottle of organic peppermint essential oil from Plant Therapy costs around $13. A 15ml bottle of peppermint from Young Living costs $28.95.
That is an insane price difference!!!! So I would say yes! Their prices are extremely fair.
Is Plant Therapy an MLM?
Unlike the more well-known essential oil companies, Plant Therapy is not an MLM (multi-level-marketing) company.
According to Webster’s Dictionary, an MLM is a “business structure or practice in which an individual seller earns commissions both from direct sales and from the sales of the seller’s recruits, of those recruited by the seller’s recruits, and so on”.

Some have claimed that as much as 60% of the price of purchasing MLM brand essential oils actually goes to the distributors in the upline.
There is no membership fee to shop at Plant Therapy and there is never any pressure to buy or sell!
And because Plant Therapy doesn’t have to pay a bunch of distributors they can keep their prices affordable.
Can Plant Therapy Essential Oils Be Ingested?
The topic of ingesting essential oils is a highly debated one in the essential oil community. When I was a member of Young Living, ingesting essential oils was highly promoted.
After doing my own research I discovered that ingesting essential oils can be dangerous and there have been many people who have had very bad reactions.
I personally have ingested essential oils and still continue to do so but I think that is a decision each individual person needs to make on their own.
There just has not been enough medical research done in regards to ingesting essential oils to conclusively say one way or the other.
Now as far as whether or not Plant Therapy essential oils are safe to ingest, the answer is a little complicated.
Plant Therapy does not label their oils safe for consumption the way DoTerra and Young Living do but that is a whole other discussion as to whether DoTerra and Young Living should be labeling their oils that way knowing the lack of research that is available in regards to ingesting essential oils.
If someone has come to the conclusion that ingesting essential oils is safe then I would tell them to be absolutely certain that the essential oil does not have any known adverse effects from ingesting (some essential oils should never ever be ingested) and the oil is completely unadulterated and 100% pure, which Plant Therapy essential oils are.
I personally ingest Plant Therapy essential oils. Based on my research they are the same quality as DoTerra and Young Living if not higher quality.
And Plant Therapy provides GC/MS testing reports to their customers to prove the quality of their oils which Young Living does not.
With all of that being said, please keep in mind Plant Therapy advises against ingesting essential oils in general.

“We do not recommend the general internal use of essential oils. Essential oils are highly concentrated and have the capacity to cause serious damage if used internally without the necessary expertise required in administering them. We do have customers who choose to use our oils internally. However, we recommend it only be done with great respect for the power of essential oils, under the direction of someone who is qualified in the internal use of essential oils and someone who truly understands the chemical makeup of each individual oil, and NOT on a daily basis.”

Are Plant Therapy Essential Oils Therapeutic Grade?
Therapeutic grade is a term used often by MLM essential oil companies. But since there is no organization that oversees the quality of essential oils, ‘Therapeutic Grade’ is basically just a marketing term.
Essentially, any company can claim their essential oils are therapeutic grade.
Therefore, “therapeutic grade” is not a term you should look for or worry about when looking for an essential oil company.
Instead, look for GC/MS testing reports to ensure the highest quality of the oils.
Plant Therapy Kid Safe Line
Kid-safe by Plant Therapy is the first essential oil line developed specifically for children.
They are formulated by Robert Tisserand for children 2-10 years old. Their kid-safe line includes single oils as well as blends targeting specific ailments and issues.

Plant Therapy Vs DoTerra
The biggest difference between DoTerra and Plant Therapy is definitely the price of their oils.
For example, a bottle of lavender essential oil costs around $2.04 per ml for non-members and $1.53 per ml for members when purchased from DoTerra. Lavender purchased from Plant Therapy costs around $.75 per ml, no membership required!
Peppermint essential oil purchased from DoTerra costs around $1.95 per ml for non-members and $1.46 per ml for members. Peppermint essential oil purchased from Plant Therapy costs around $.43 per ml. Once again no membership required!
This giant price difference is pretty consistent throughout all the different types of essential oils.
But as far as quality goes there isn’t much difference between these two brands.
Another difference is DoTerra is an MLM company and Plant Therapy is not. You don’t have to become a member to recieve amazing prices with Plant Therapy but that is not the case with DoTerra.
With DoTerra you will need to become a member to receive their reduced member pricing which really isn’t that great of a deal when compared to Plant Therapy’s regular, everyday prices.
Keep in mind, to become a member with DoTerra you’ll have to pay a minimum $35 membership fee.
Also, as far as I can tell DoTerra does not provide its customers with GC/MS testing reports and Plant Therapy does.
Plant Therapy Vs Young Living
Once again when comparing Young Living to Plant Therapy one of the biggest differences is their prices.
As you can see above Young Living essential oils are 2 to 3 times the price of Plant Therapy essential oils.
Aside from pricing another significant difference between the companies is that Young Living does not provide its customers with GC/MS testing reports and Plant Therapy does.
Also, when it comes to essential oil safety Plant Therapy definitely has Young Living beat.
Young Living does not require its distributors to have any essential oil experience or education and unfortunately, this leads to a lot of unsafe and dangerous essential oil advice.
Plant Therapy, on the other hand, has many certified aromatherapists working for them and also includes safety information on each product page.
And don’t forget their kid safe line was developed with the help of Robert Tisserand, a world-renowned aromatherapist and essential oil educator.
Their essential oils also clearly indicate whether they are safe to use on children.
Does Plant Therapy Have Thieves?
Thieves used to be my absolute favorite essential oil blend from Young Living. And while Plant Therapy does not have Thieves, because the blend is owned by Young Living, they do have something very similar.
Germ Fighter is made with cinnamon cassia, lemon, eucalyptus, clove, and rosemary essential oils. I use it often as an alternative to Thieves and I love it!
I like to add it to my diffuser in the fall and winter months. Plus, I also like to add it to my immune-boosting roller blend. It’s amazing and it is less than $10!!!
By the way, I am not trying to bash on Young Living or DoTerra. I have used essential oils from both companies and really like them. I just don’t notice any difference between their oils and Plant Therapy’s oils.
And in my opinion, the massive price difference isn’t justified. With Plant Therapy you can purchase the same quality oil at a fraction of the price.

Plant Therapy essential oils can be purchased on Amazon or on the Plant Therapy website. I prefer to purchase on the company website because they usually have coupons available and they also have a reward program. More about that below.
Plant Therapy Essential Oil Blends
One of my favorite things about Young Living is their essential oil blends. But Plant Therapy has some amazing blends as well. Like I mentioned earlier, I love their Germ Fighter blend which is very similar to Thieves from Young Living.
They also have another blend called Citrus Burst that is similar to Citrus Fresh from Young Living. It smells really good!
Their Muscle Aid blend works really well for muscle pain relief and their Sleep Tight blend works great for sleep support.

Well, there you have it. Plant Therapy definitely passes the test. I 100% believe their essential oils are not just good quality but they are great quality!
