Advances in digital learning technology as well as modern online course pedagogy have enabled the world to reconsider what can be learned online, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy! Our online format has proven to be effective for a broad range of students across diverse backgrounds, age groups, and levels of technological skill.
This 100% online learning course is designed to make the most of your time. Benefit from live-online sessions held in real-time with course facilitators and colleagues, while also having the flexibility to work through the conceptual course materials independently. Enjoy freedom to learn from your own home or office, or even from your phone, on the go!
Learn skills to notice and process the residues of traumatic experience that are physically encoded in your clients’ bodies. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy helps you to work with your clients with the unresolved implicit patterns related to their traumatic experiences that often cannot be addressed in words or emotions.
In this six-module course, you will learn the foundations of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for working with traumatic experience, develop new skills that you will be able to apply immediately with your clients who are distressed or traumatized, and explore adaptations of SP skills for more complex clinical situations.
Watch a brief introduction to SP for Trauma Themes…
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a body-oriented (somatic) talk therapy developed by Pat Ogden, PhD. SP is an eloquent therapy model that integrates leading-edge research on mind-body connection, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment Theory, Structural Dissociation and current developments in trauma treatment.
I have completed 2 levels of training in this model of Psychotherapy: Level I – Affect Dysregulation, Survival Defenses, and Traumatic Memory and Level II Emotional Processing, Meaning Making, and Attachment Repair. I’ve also studied with SP Faculty – Dr. Janina Fisher and completed her multi-year training: The Neurobiological Legacy of Trauma.
I integrate Sensorimotor Psychotherapy into a treatment plan whenever appropriate.

Healing Resources
“Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.” ~ Pema Chödrön

Trauma Pages
These Trauma Pages focus primarily on emotional trauma and traumatic stress, including PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder), whether following individual traumatic experience(s) or a large-scale disaster. The purpose of this award winning site is to provide information for clinicians and researchers in the traumatic-stress field. Pat Ogden, Ph.D. and Kekuni Minton have co-authored an article entitled Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: One Method for Processing Traumatic Memory which is posted here.
United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP)
The USABP was founded in June, 1996 by a group of 20 clinicians and trainers representing most of the major disciplines and modalities of the field. The goals of the USABP are to raise the profile of Body Psychotherapy within the health and psychotherapy fields and within the society as a whole; and to open discussion between modalities and schools, creating a language and a practice that distills the most effective elements from the diverse approaches to “embodiment”
represented in the membership. Visit their website to learn more about the benefits of membership.
