Julie Lorenz is an understanding, open minded, non-judgemental and expreinced therapist based in Melbourne, Australia.
Julie’s extensive training and experience as a sex therapist helps guide her clients to resolve many of their past and present issues.
“Relationships and sexual issues are a specialised area of interest for me, because when we get these areas of our lives right; so many other aspects of our life fall comfortably into place.”
Julie has trained many of Melbourne’s counselling and hypnotherapists as a senior lecturer at leading colleges and universities in Melbourne.
Having seen many clients over the past 24 years, Julie’s clinical experience is both extensive and diverse. Her sexual therapy and relationship counselling has provided many clients find a safe port to begin the process of discovery and recovery.
Many adults present with sexual issues related to healing after the end of a relationship, requiring special understanding and counselling to overcome any obsticals. It is often important to intervene early, repairing any resentments and hurts before they become a larger problem.
At times non-sexual relationships outside of the primary coupleship (sometimes referred to as “emotional affairs”) cause insecurities and jealousy. These situations need special understanding to sort out before permanent damage is caused, or the relationship difficulties become terminal.
Sexual dysfunctions or other sexual issues can arrise from many different beginnings, such as a life stage dilemma, past emotional difficulties and thought patterns, as well as physical medical health issues. Discovering and understanding these issues will assist on the road to healing and wholeness.
Hypnotherapy is often helpful in cases requiring behaviour change, such as dealing with porn addiction, premature ejaculation and many other aspects of sexual therapy.
As a trained hypnotherapist, Julie is able to effectively use hypnotherapy to assist with behaviour change for both sexual and other issues as desired by the client.
Qualified in Family Therapy, Julie trained at Alma Family Centre and studied Social Sciences in Counselling at Swinburne University.
Julie’s qualifications include: Post Graduate Diploma Psychotherapy and Post Graduate Diploma Hypnotherapy, Academy of Hypnotherapy Science, and Gottman trained relationship therapist.
Julie’s career has taken her to working with mandated clients through the justice system in the early years and she has developed a diverse private practice for well over a decade in Kew, Victoria (an inner eastern suburb of Melbourne). Julie deals with family issues, specialising in relationship counselling with a no-nonsense, humour filled commonsense approach.
Families and relationships these days have many facets that we are not ‘trained’ in. Mens roles are changing with higher expectations of shared home duties as women work full or part-time in employment outside the home. Women are juggling both roles while often helping care for aging parents.
Sometimes a partner will feel disconnected or neglected by the other, often by the pressures of life and this can get between them. One partner may try to raise the issues they face, even suggesting counselling only have it rejected then sometime later it’s as if one partner has gradually ‘left’ the relationship emotionally.
Julie’s direct approach is welcomed and healing to both parties as often results in reconciliation and a plan to move forward.
Many clients are referred to Julie from other therapists and organisations because of her knowledge on matters of sexuality. This delicate subject needs skill, confidence and understanding to deal with the often disappointed feelings around fears of performance failures for both men and women.
In a time in our history where sex is so ‘out there’ couples can often feel that they are ill equipped to keep the interest and passion alive in long-term relationships. Overcoming early childhood conditioning or trying to more forward after a partner has had an affair are just some of the issues that present in therapy.
Julie is also a preferred therapist for the Zoe Belle Gender Collective.

FEATURED TESTIMONIAL
A year on from the day I walked in nervously to Julie’s suite I am happier than I have ever been and feel like I am a real person living a real life. A better husband, a better parent, and a much better feeling deep inside that tells me I am Ok.
No one has a magic wand, but Julie’s help has been, and still is, magic in my life
