Centre for depth psychology zurich

The programme is designed for academics from all fields.  The basis of the training is the personal analysis and hence the connection of analyst and analysand to the manifestations of the objective psyche. On the basis of the dreams and creative work, the board decides whether the candidate shall be accepted for training. The candidate’s own analyst continues to play a key role.

Training
Twice a year, two-week block courses are held, with lectures and seminars in English and German. The period between the  two courses is intended for individual study and for analysis.
The teaching staff are members of the Board, experienced analysts invited as guest lecturers, and academics from other fields, as well as graduates and students at the Centre.

Diploma
The first part of the theoretical section of the course closes with the Propädeutikum, which entitles the  student to take on practical case work under  the supervision of an  experienced analyst. The second part concludes with a thesis and a Diploma examination.  With the Diploma, the Centre testifies to the ability to take on professional work as an analyst, but does nor guarantee the opportunity to  work professionally in Switzerland or any other country.

The Research and Training Centre in Depth Psychology was founded in Zurich in 1994. The idea was to set up a place in which the objective /autonomous psyche could be observed in all its aspects.

Aims
The aims of the Centre are, on the one hand, to conduct in-depth research into the unconscious psyche and also to provide a training programme for
analysts. The Centre is open to interested parties from all academic spheres who are considering applying their own experience of the unconscious and depth psychology in their own special fields.

Special emphasis
is placed on research, which is an integral component of the programme. The starting point is the pioneer work carried out by C.G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. A major aspect of the study programme is the understanding of archetypal processes and how they find expression in all cultures and in all manifestations of the unconscious of modern man. Special emphasis is placed on research into alchemy. Subjects that arise from this are the connections between individuation and collective renewal and between psyche and matter.

My Journey

More about how I came to be a Jungian analyst…

Last updated: December 2013

Marie-Louise von Franz earned her doctorate in philology at the University of Zurich. From 1934 onwards, she worked closely with C. G. Jung until his death in 1961, particularly in connection with his studies in alchemy. She expanded his later work Mysterium coniunctionis with an interpretation of Aurora consurgens, a Christian-alchemical text attributed to Thomas of Aquinas. For many years she was a lecturer and training analyst at the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich. In 1974, together with some friends, she founded the Stiftung für Jung’sche Psychologie Küsnacht ZH (Foundation for Jungian Psychology Küsnacht ZH). In addition, she was the Honorary President of the Research- and Training Centre for Depth Psychology according to C. G. Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz in Zurich.

To date, her publications that include psychological interpretations of fairytales and dreams, as well as texts on alchemy, the medieval Holy Grail, the visions of Niklaus von Flüe, the puer aeternus, her research into synchronicity and her masterful „inner“ biography on the significance of C. G. Jung in our time, have been translated into 23 languages. Her life’s work was crowned with her psychological commentary upon Kitab Hall ar-Rumüz by Muhammad Ibn Umail.

Frith has presented lecture series to trainee analysts at the Research & Training Centre and at the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP Zürich).
